New guidelines released to better manage green spaces

The Best Practice Guidelines for Functional Open Space is a new set of guidelines prepared to optimise the development, construction and maintenance of functional open space such as sporting ovals and turf in Victoria, including better ground construction, irrigation design and irrigation control to lessen the impact of drought.

An industry first, the guidelines are the result of collaboration between major sporting venue operators, representatives from the turf industry, local government and City West Water, and seek to identify the key factors that contribute to the effective functioning of green open spaces and to provide managers with the knowledge and tools to achieve the required performance, through effective use of resources, including labour and water.
