Partnerships key to 1 Million Trees success

Planting one million trees in Melbourne’s west is a bold and ambitious project, with partnerships crucial to its success.

While project delivery partners are tasked with the role of planning and planting the hundreds of sites that will house the new trees, City West Water’s Greening the West team is working with additional project supporters to give the many sites planted a strong chance of thriving.

Corrections Victoria’s Community Correctional Services Program facilitates community work for offenders. Unpaid community work enables offenders to participate in supervised and valuable community activities, and the CCS team recently commenced an ongoing project to providing gardening services to the 1 Million Trees Project.

Services provided include site maintenance and weeding as well as the vital component for successful tree planting – watering. To assist with this activity Corrections Victoria has fitted out one of its work trailers with a 1,000 litre water tank kindly donated by Tankworks. Tankworks is one of Australia’s leading suppliers in the rainwater harvesting industry, and a keen supporter of the Greening the West 1 Million Trees Project.
