About the project

Kororoit Creek

Kororoit Creek, Laverton North, Victoria, Australia

It began in 2001 when Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek Inc (FOLKC) commenced planting along Kororoit Creek in Altona North. It became known as the ongoing Kororoit Creek Regional Strategy 2005 – 2030.

Over the past fourteen years, thousands of volunteers from many diverse cultural and industrial organisations have joined with FOLKC in planting in excess of 50,000 trees, shrubs and understory plants along the creek within Hobsons Bay.

The area has been transformed from an unkempt and hazardous drainage reserve to a remarkable walking track.

Joining Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek in contributing to corridor greening success are Melbourne Water, Hobsons Bay City Council, Toyota Australia and Millers Inn. However support from many sources has seen this project flourish –  local industries and businesses, government agencies, local government and especially very many community groups have contributed to the success so far achieved in reaching the goals set.
