Greening the zoo

Werribee Open Range Zoo is one of Melbourne’s three zoos, located on the Werribee River next to the Werribee Mansion. It offers visitors the opportunity to experience an ‘African adventure close to home’ within a savannah setting across the zoo’s open plains.

In 2014, 1500 native trees were planted along one of the zoo’s internal roads to create a green reserve that will in time provide shade for visitors and habitat for wildlife.

Zoos Victoria lead by example. They work hard to incorporate ecologically sustainable design principles in all developments, and the tree planting project is just one of many ways they are helping to conserve wildlife and the natural world.
