Location(s):

About the project

Newell's Paddock, Footscray

Newells Paddock, Footscray, Victoria, Australia

The project aims to create a functional design to upgrade and improve the existing wetland system at Newell’s Paddock.

The redesign will make the site more accessible to people, as well as improving water quality entering the Maribyrnong River, handling the increased amount of stormwater entering the wetlands, providing a unique habitat for wetland wildlife and additional amenity for the expected urban growth in the area.

Some of the key objectives will be to assess the performance of the existing wetlands and identify improvements; develop concept plans to improve the treatment train performance; identify additional public access paths and boardwalks; the placement of interpretive signage to improve the community’s understanding of wetland ecosystems; and an assessment of the existing vegetation.
